USA Name Strong Squad In An International Friendly With Ghana


Coach of United State of America national team Gregg Berhalter has named a strong squad in an international friendly with Ghana on October 17, 2023 at Geodis Park, Nashville Tennessee.

Giving explaining to why some players were omitted from his call-up, the coach said, Antonee Robinson and Mark McKenzie have been left out of the team due to minor injuries, with both players expected to reach fully recover soon.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, on the other hand, has made a quick return to the squad after coming back from an injury sustained while playing for his club-Celtic.

Meanwhile, Kevin Paredes from Wolfsburg and Kristoffer Lund from Palermo received call-ups, with Haji Wright failing to make up the shortlist.

Moreover, Berhalter confirmed that discussions with Burnley’s young winger Luca Koleosho regarding his international future is still ongoing. Koleosho has recently featured for Italy’s Under 19 and 20 sides but has previously represented the U.S. at Under15 level and was born in Connecticut.

Due to the ongoing MLS playoffs in October, Berhalter has chosen 22 players from outside the MLS for his 23-man squad, with only DeJuan Jones from the New England Revolution being the sole MLS player invited.

The USA match against Ghana at Nashville’s Geodis Park on October 17, bring’s back memories of USA-Ghana matches as both countries have met twice at the FIFA world cup stage with Ghana rising up to both occasion.
