THE 1-0 SHOCK FROM ANGOLA, THE EXPECTATIONS AS GHANA MEET NIGER ON MONDAY

The Garden City of Kumasi turned into a ghost city on Thursday night when Ghana lost painfully to Angola at the Fortified home ground of the Black Stars, that is the Baba Yara Stadium.

The anticipated crowd went dead silent and were stunned when the final whistle blew to bring the game to an end.

Palancas Negras of Angola had broken the 51 year invisible home record of the Black Stars not losing an Afcon qualifier match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi by inflicting a 1-0 defeat to Ghana that caused the fans to be upset and sent shockwaves to many football loving fans across the country.

In a much tensed game saw Ghana dominating in most part of the first half, with Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo replicating and exerting their top form in the EPL into the game that gave the Angolan defence a hell of problems.

The Angolan’s, on the other hand, also proved the strength they have through goalkeeper Neblu Adilson Cipriano, who stood tall to deny the Black Stars from scoring on some few instances.

However, the Black Stars upped their game in the second half of the game by exerting more pressure on the Angolan team but it was a cruel twist of event when Angola scored a 93rd minute goal through substitute Felicio Joao when pounced on a poor clearance from Ghana’s defender Abdul Mumin who had had a good game until that unfortunate incident.

The defeat to the Angolan’s has now brought a lot pressure onto the team to win their next Afcon game against Niger in Morocco.

The expectation of many Ghanaians are high to the extent that the Black Stars cannot afford to lose in their second Afcon qualifier that could deem the hopes of expectant fans who will wish to travel to Morocco for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Black Stars has since travelled to Morocco to prepare for their next match against Niger at the Stade Municipal de Berkane on Monday, September 9, 2024.
