CYCLING: AN ACT OF SPORTSMANSHIP WIN’S TWO ERITREAN CYCLISTS GOLD AND SILVER RESPECTIVELY AT 13TH AFRICAN GAMES

Eritrean cyclist Nahom Zeray Araya and his colleague from the same cycling team crossed the finish line together as sign of sportsmanship to give Eritrea Gold and Silver respectively in the men’s elite Criterum at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The highly competitive race of 30-lap with a total distance of 84 kilometers was made up of cyclists from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt, Rwanda, Madagascar and many others from the 54 participating countries at the games including Eritrea.


Team Ghana had difficulties moment into the race with their inability to contain the heat on the road as they joined the 34 other cyclists to stopping point of the race.

As Zeray Araya and team colleague claimed gold and silver, Blaine Conrad Kieck of South Africa on the otherhand came third and took the Bronze medal for his country.


Meanwhile, in the women’s criterum race also came along with excitement and some interesting scenes as South African Hayley Preen came first in the 56 kilometers race with Greff Anri Krugel of Namibia picking the second slot whiles Diane Ingabre of Rwanda placing third at the end of the race.

This is Hayley’s second gold medal won in the women’s cycling race so far in the competition.
