GENDER MINISTER, UNDERTAKES MONITORING VISIT TO WEIJA GBAWE SCHOOLS UNDER GSFP

Following her recent spot-check exercise in Nungua, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, conducted another monitoring visit in the Weija Gbawe Municipality to assess the quality of meals prepared and served to pupils under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

The Minister visited the Weija Gbawe Cluster of Schools, where she interacted with pupils, teachers, and caterers. She observed the meals being served and engaged the children on their level of satisfaction with the food.

She also held discussions with teachers and caterers on ways to further strengthen the programme to improve child nutrition and learning outcomes.

Addressing the media, the Minister emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to expanding the GSFP to more schools across the country. She stressed that the President’s goal is to ensure that children not only benefit from access to meals but also receive nutritious, high-quality food that supports their health and academic growth.

The Minister commended the caterers for their dedication, noting that despite the challenges, they continue to provide meals for the children. She acknowledged that while the current feeding grant of GHS 2.00 per child per day may not be sufficient, caterers have demonstrated innovation and commitment in preparing wholesome meals.

She further assured caterers that Government is committed to prompt payments once accurate data on their cooking days is submitted, stressing that delays will be minimized to keep the programme sustainable.

As part of her visit, the Minister, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive for Weija Gbawe, Hon. Felix Odamptey Lamptey, presented boxes of biscuits and drinks to pupils of the Cluster of Schools to encourage them and complement their meals.

The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the GSFP, Madam Jessica Braimah.
