
TENNIS: SPORTS AND RECREATION MINISTER CALLS FOR CORPORATE SUPPORT AND INCREASED PUBLICITY FOR TENNIS EVENTS

Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Adams has urged corporate organisations and the media to extend their support to tennis tournaments and or events to help promote the game in Ghana.
The Buem Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) said this when he attended the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior World Tennis Tour event held at the Tennis Centre of the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra on Saturday 5th April, 2025.
He was however, accompanied by the evergreen and renowned media personality Ms. Veronica Commey, currently the Deputy Director of the National Sports Authority and Hon. Betty Krosbi-Mensah, former Member of Parliament for the people of Afram Plains North.
The Minister, seized the opportunity to tour the Tennis Complex at Borteyman for the first time since he took office. He also had interaction with officials, young athletes and Mr Roger Crawford, the CEO and Tournament Director of Tennis Foundation Ghana.
Hon. Adams lauded the CEO, Mr Crawford for his unwavering commitment and significant contributions to developing Junior Tennis in the country by successfully organising ITF Junior events for more than six years. He highlighted the need for such tournaments, which goes a long way to provide affordable opportunity for young local athletes to earn valuable ranking points and international competitive exposure and recognition.
The Sports Minister, in furtherance, called for an increased corporate support to the sport, stressing the importance of public-private partnership to sustain such essential developmental initiatives.
He also admonished the organisers and media houses to enhance publicity drive for future tournaments, emphasizing that, increased awareness of the game will attract huge crowd, create the excitement and inspire more young talents to tennis.
Hon. Kofi Adams, therefore, presented trophy and medals to the winners for the Men’s Singles category and congratulated all the young athletes for their commendable performances and enthusiasm.
