
GOC PRESIDENT, OUTLINES KEY GOALS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR TO CONGRESS AT IT’S AGM IN ACCRA

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Commonwealth Games Association – Ghana, Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, outlined GOC’s key objectives for the impending year as he addressed members of the Olympic & Non-Olympic family and other key stakeholders within the sports fraternity.
At its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the Theodosia Okoh’s Hockey stadium in Accra to account for his stewardship to congress, Nunoo-Mensah, initially enumerated some significant milestone achieved by the leadership under the year of review.
This, as he mentioned, Ghana’s ability to host the 13th African Games held in Accra, where Ghana finished sixth on the medal table, with a total of 69 medals (19 gold, 29 silver and 21 bronze) in all, a success in the country’s Olympic Games history which will be remembered for a long time to come.
He also gave a brief account to Ghana’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic and the IOC competition manipulation workshop held in France as some and other achievements garnered last year.
On the other hand, the president of the Olympic movement in Ghana, did not gloss over what is at stake for the year ahead. He therefore in his concluding remarks, outlined to congress his key goals to the Olympic family for the upcoming year.
The GOC president, who is also the development chief of the Ga land, stated that, he intends to foster a strong relationships with international sports organisations, governments and corporate partners to secure resources and other support for all athletes.
Nunoo-Mensah, further remarked that, infrastructure development will be a key objective, as he will work tirelessly with government and the IFs to upgrade and develop sports infrastructure in Ghana as a means to ensure the hunt for more talents and have access to training facilities.
The president, added, athletes development cannot be overlooked, and therefore, will prioritise initiatives that will promote athletes development which will include, coaching clinics, training programs and competitions.
He admonished members, the need to work together as a family to promote the Olympic spirit in other to advance sports development in Ghana.
