
CYCLING: Erica Sedro Win’s 2023 National Cycling Championship Race-Female Elite Category

Erica Sedro of Team Sky struck gold in the 2023 National Cycling Championship road race held in Ho, the capital town of Volta region.
The two-day event saw Ghana’s female cyclist compete among her peers for the prize at stake where she showed her superiority over her counterparts to secure the first position and ultimately, the gold medal.
In the Elite Women’s Division, Sedro maintained her title in a distance of 65.2km of 4 laps with an average speed of 23.48km with a finished time of three hours, thirty-three minutes followed by Florence Heridoh, also with a finished time of three hours, thirty-five minutes respectively.
Sedro displayed a remarkable form with her speed and stamina as she overpowered her colleagues female cyclists to grab the ultimate prize.
The event held on the main streets of Ho municipality, witnessed lots of side attraction, as cycling lovers enjoyed and chant for their favorite athlete during the process of the road race.
The National Championship form part of the preparations towards the upcoming Accra 2023 All African Games to be staged in Ghana next year March as well as Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.
In an interview section with Yours Truly after the event, Sedro expressed her excitement for defending her title in this year’s championship.
She said, “I’m very happy for winning this championship again and most importantly I want to thank Ghana Cycling Federation for giving me the opportunity to exhibit my talent, and to my club owner, my coach, referees and all my team members of Team Sky Cycling Club.”
She added, “I am appealing to the federation that, they should continue organising the race so that we can have more women in the competition just like our male counterpart.”
However, Mr. Mohammed Shaban, Secretary General for the Cycling Federation highlighted their priority to have more women to compete in the championship.
He said, “I want to encourage more women to use cycling as their profession . I will support all female cyclists to attain high and to win medals for Ghana.” He concluded.
Ghana will be hoping to improve on their previous performance in the Olympic Games as Paris 2024 beckons.
