NEW NSA GOVERNING BOARD SWORN INTO OFFICE- MINISTER CALLS FOR BOLD REFORMS

Ghana’s sports sector is poised for a major overhaul, with the appointment of a new Governing Board for the National Sports Authority (NSA). The board, led by Chairman Dr. Fred Awaah, was officially inaugurated by Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, who emphasized the need for transformative reforms.

In his address, Hon. Adams stressed that Ghana’s sports has evolved beyond medals and competitions, focusing on economic value, social cohesion, job creation, and athlete welfare. He urged the board to drive bold structural reforms, update the 2016 Sports Act, and develop a comprehensive national sports policy.


“The NSA is the backbone of our sports ecosystem, and its strength is crucial to the sector’s progress,” Hon. Adams stated. The Minister pledged his support, emphasizing the board’s collective experience is vital to delivering impactful results.

The new board comprises 15 members, including Dr. Fred Awaah, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, among others. Their task is to strengthen the NSA, promote inclusivity, and make Ghanaian sports more competitive and sustainable.


The appointment of the new board signifies a renewed commitment to transforming Ghanaian sports into a more competitive, inclusive, and sustainable sector.
