It was an exciting scenes and a spirit of togetherness during the unveiling ceremony of the King’s Baton Relay held yesterday at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The beautiful ceremony that took place at the seat of government brought together very important personalities including the British High Commissioner to Ghana Christian Rogg who joined the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah and the president of Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana to unveil the Baton. This open way for the baton relay to be showcased through the principal streets of Accra.
Ghana’s edition of the King’s Baton Relay, is the first time under King Charles V. of Great Britain. The unveiling held on October 3, 2025 does marks the beginning of the journey to the commonwealth games scheduled to take place in Glasgow on July 23 to August 2, 2026.
The journey of the relay started with the Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah who represented the president H.E John Dramani Mahama at Jubilee House. Other high profile personalities who participated in the baton relay includes Director General of the National Sports Authority Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, former Member of Parliament Hon Kobby Woyome, MP for Osu Klottey Hon Ezanator Agyemang Rawlings, Hon Betty Krosby Mensah, Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu, CID boss COP Lydia Donkor, Gospel Musician Empress Gifty, Professor Francis Dodoo, GOC President Richard Akpokavie, Chief Justice nominee Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as well as many federations heads, all taking part in this year’s edition.
However, the four-day event continued today, as the baton made it way to the Executive Fitness Club, the Aburi Mountain, Aburi Girls Senior High school, Adonteng Senior High school and finally to the paramount Chief of Aburi, Nana Otobuo Gyan Kwasi’s paramouncy to signify to importance of sports, culture and community engagement.
The climax of the 4-day activities will be a sports event which will take place at the Air Force Base. This will involve schools such as the Osu Manhean Basic school, Accra High SHS and many other senior high schools in Accra.
The King’s Baton Relay in Ghana forms part of the activities to the countdown of the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be staged in Glasgow, Scotland.
