Ghana Football Association’s quest to convince Nico Williams to play for the Black Stars has come to an end after the player was named in the Spanish national team for the Qatar World Cup.
The country’s football governing body has made several efforts in recent past to persuade the player switch nationality for Ghana but to no avail after his senior brother Inaki Williams decided to play for the Black Stars. Unfortunately, the hopes of many Ghanaians to see the silky talented footballer play for the country of his origin has been dashed after the player was invited by the Spanish coach to represent the country of his birth.
The Athletico Bilbao attacker has already represented the Spanish national team twice and provided a last minute assist in their European Nations qualifiers against Portugal that saw his side progress to the next stage.
This is the second time Ghana is losing out to brothers who have Ghanaian parents but one decided to play for Ghana whiles the other played for another country as in the case of Jerome Boateng and Kelvin-Prince Boateng who represented Germany and Ghana respectively.
Spanish coach Luise Enrique today named his final 26 squad for the Qatar 2022 world cup which has nine(9) days to start from today.
