La Roja’s booked their place in the final of the Olympics Games with a comeback 2-1 victory over Morocco at the Orange Velodrome stadium on Monday.
Spain secured the all important victory to the final through Juanlu Sanchez goal to make the difference between the two teams.
The Atlas Lions took the lead through Soufiane Rahimi penalty in the first half of the game before Fermin Lopez restored parity during the second half.
Spain started brightly, testing Munir Mohamedi with a long-range strikes and incessant attack but all to no avail.
However, Spain found themselves behind shortly after, when Pablo Barrios caught Amir Richardson on the back of the calf with a high tackle in the box and Rahimi made no mistake from the spot kick to put Morocco in front.
Spain afterwards dominated the second half as they pushed for an equaliser. Fermin cancelled the lead after he moved past his marker to drive a low shot into the bottom-right corner in the 65th minute.
Morocco almost restored their lead moments later through Richardson’s attempt but his first-time effort swerved away from goal and wide of the near post.
Substitute Sanchez, brought on an intense energy to win the day for Spain from a tight angle, when his shot bounced off the inside of the far post.
Morocco stepped up their game moment after when Abde Ezzalzouli and Richardson gave Spain a late scare in goal with two powerful efforts, but fortunately for the Spanish goalkeeper, the Atlas Lions could not find the back of the net until the centre referee blew the final whistle to bring the game to a close.
