Director General of the National Sports Authority Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, has initiated steps to engage with the Mission heads of Mexico, USA and Canada in Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In line with this initiative, the Director General on July 15, 2026, welcomed the Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, Her Excellency Norma Ang Sánchez, to his office at the Accra Sports stadium.
As part of the engagement, discussions were held around fostering a bilateral collaboration among the two countries in the area of sports development, sports business and tourism, with emphasis on infrastructure, exchange in boxing knowledge, athletics, football, youth empowerment, and sustainable infrastructure growth.
However, H.E Ang Sanchez expressed her willingness in working together with Ghana to develop sports. The Mexican ambassador stated that, she is keen to explore the cultural exchange between the two countries before, during and after the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by her country, Canada and USA.
The Black Stars are in a pole position to qualify to the 2026 World Cup and the move by the Director General has be widely applauded and described as timely and positive.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah since his appointment as the director general of NSA, has been exploring a lot of avenues to build the business and tourism aspect of the sports. Culminating to this the NSA has so far partnered well with the Ghana Tourism Authority to explore the business aspect of the game.
