Casemiro Sees Red As Southampton Secures Vital Away Point

Manchester United today drew 0-0 at home to relegation threatened side, Southampton who had an advantage to win as a result of Casemiro’s first half red card.

Casemiro was sent off due to a bad tackle on a Southampton player. But Manchester United were fortunate to claim a point in Old Trafford to keep their top four dreams alive.

Erik ten Hag’s men were disappointing, as they failed to take up chances that came their way and Casemiro’s red card for a career threatened foul on Carlos Alcaraz gave the visitors
opportunity to dominate especially in the second half of the game.

Unfortunately, Southampton failed to take their chances, and the goalless draw however, keeps them bottom of the table but only two points adrift of safety.

United in the early stages looked more determined to set things right after their Anfield humiliation and Marcus Rashford was denied by Gavin Bazunu of the Saints after a fine give and go with Bruno Fernandes.

The ‘Reds’ were grateful to David de Gea for turning over Theo Walcott’s close-range header, but then had to face up to playing with 10 men as Casemiro was shown a straight red after Taylor went to the VAR monitor following a high challenge on Alcaraz.

Southampton went twice close to capitalising on their numerical advantage after the restart of the second part of the game.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was forced to clear off the line after Scott McTominay deflected a Kyle Walker-Peters cross towards goal. James Ward-Prowse then hit the top of the crossbar from a free kick awarded by center referee Anthony Taylor.

Manchester United are now on 16 points adrift league leaders Arsenal who won 3-0 away to Fulham.
