
13TH AFRICAN GAMES: ALEANDER MAYAR WIN’S MEN’S ELITE RACE ON DAY 2 OF CYCLING COMPETITION

Mauritius rider Aleander Mayar finished ahead of Dilian Geary and Kudus Ghebremedlein of South Africa and Eritrea respectively to win the men’s Elite and under 23 race on day two of the cycling competition at the 13th African Games in Accra.
The race took place at Ablekuma Olebu in the Greater Accra region. A total number of 96 cyclists took part in the race but only 56 were able to complete the race due to the serious nature of the average speed being undertaken by the riders on the day of the competitions.
The Mayar did a time of 3hrs ,06mins 01 secs in a distance of 137.5 km. The entire average speed was 44.35km/hr.
Meanwhile, Solomon Tagoe from Ghana was the only cyclist from Ghana who placed 31st.
While One other Ghanaian cyclist Victor Cudjoe finished above three riders counting from the bottom.
The rest of the Ghanaian cyclists, Michael Naaba, Frank Akuffo, Prince Kudufia did not finish the race.
The race has gone on break on Monday, 11 March 2024, and will resume on Tuesday 12th March at the same venue. That will be the criterum for both men and women competitions.
