The Black Queens of Ghana returned home yesterday after their international friendly with Japan dubbed the MS&AD Cup 2024, played far away in Kanazawa-Japan.
The Queens were unfortunately thrashed 4-0 by the host country in a match both Nations used as preparatory grounds ahead of their respective competitive games.
Both Players and the technical team members led by coach Nora Häuptle and Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday afternoon.
The Queens and officials departed their base in Kanazawa, Japan, for the Naritao International Airport on Sunday without players like Princess Marfo, Grace Asantewaa and Linda Eshun who had already flew back to rejoin their respective clubs in Mexico, Iceland, Honolulu and USA.
Black Queens led by coach Nora Hauptle, are on a rebuilding process after missing out on a number of continental competitions in recent past but have already qualified for the next edition of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) slated for July 2025.
The international friendly with Japan was a good exercise for the Queens and also gave the Technical team a good idea of the level of the team and areas that require further strengthening to fine tune the team that can face any opponent.
However, the Ghana Football Association remains committed to invest more in building the depth and quality of women national teams that will be ready for any future assignments in line with the Women’s Football Strategy of the Association.
