Paris-Saint Germain has confirmed today that, their star player Neymar Jr. will be sidelined for the rest of the season as a result of injury.
Neymar’s campaign for the season has been brought to a sudden end with surgery required on a recurrent ankle injury.
The player has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury during the 4-3 win over Lille in February.
Head coach of PSG Christophe Galtier said last week that, Neymar would sit out for the Ligue 1 clash against Nantes, as well as Wednesday’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg clash with Bayern Munich.
The club has therefore announced that a return to this season is not possible, with Neymar out of action for the next three to four months as surgery is required for the injury.
However, a statement read: “Neymar Jr has featured several episodes of right ankle instability in recent years.
“Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation, in order to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted confirmed this need.
“This surgery will be performed in the coming days at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha.
“A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to collective training.” The statement concluded.
The Brazilian has been enjoying his most productive season for PSG since the 2018-19 league season, scoring a total of 18 goals and providing 16 assists in all competitions until the unfortunate incident.
