EURO 2024 : SPAIN CROWNED EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS IN A 2-1 WIN OVER ENGLAND

Spain on Sunday defeated England in Berlin to win the ultimate trophy as they were crowned on the night as Euro 2024 champions.

Spain who proved to be the best team from day one of the tournament dominated play from the start of the game to get a deservedly 2-1 victory over England who had gone trophy-less over so many years in the country’s football history.

With the exceptional display from Nico Williams, to get the opener for Spain shortly after the first half, Cole Palmer’s slick finish gave England fans some hope, only for Spain to turn things around again moment after as the game neared its end and eventually got the winner through substitute Mikel Oyarzabal in the 85th minute.

Spain showed their quality during the entire tournament, as a result were regarded as the most entertaining team to watch, with the highest scorers, the best pressers, the highest goals scored with 15 goals and the most coherent football team. Almost every other country at Euro 2024 either looked entirely disjointed in their play or put in the odd disjointed performance.

One cannot rule out the fact that, Spain had a tough draw and also had a tough opponents all the way to the final. They were in what many perceived to be the ‘Group of death’ alongside perennial tournament overachievers Croatia and reigning champions Italy who got eliminated along the way.

Spain saw off three pre-tournament favourites in Germany, France and England with a higher proportion of the games where they led with a percentage of 55 than any other team at Euro 2024. They also became the first country in history to win seven games on a row at European Championship to lift the trophy.
