PRESIDENT MAHAMA APPOINT’S YOUNG AND DYNAMIC MEDIA PERSONALITY AS DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF NSA

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has named Mr Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah to lead the National Sports Authority(NSA) as it’s new Director-General(DG).

In a letter dated March 12, 2025 and signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, directed the former DG to hand over duties to Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah to act with immediate effect as his services will no longer be needed at the NSA.

The appointment of the renowned sports journalist did not come as a surprise to many, as he is known for his hardworking prowess, dynamic style and leadership qualities expected to bring the required changes to the Sports Authority.

Ampofo-Ankrah, who previously worked with BBC has vast experience in the Ghanaian media space spanning over 20 years of media activism, sports promotion and development. This can be related to his singular effort in birthing, nurturing and financing Beach Soccer in Ghana to its current stage that is able to compete in international events.

The approval ratings of the appointment of the former JoyFm sports host is phenomenon due to his sense of humour, calm demeanour, friendly approach and his readiness to welcome all dissenting views.

The branding sense and innovative ideas of the new DG, comes as a huge advantage to the office as it intends to bring the much-needed reforms and adjustments that has eluded the NSA over the years especially in the area of marketability, branding, sports infrastructure maintenance etc.

Ampofo-Ankrah is expected to work closely with the Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, to fulfill the President’s ambition in resetting Ghana sports to its former glory days.

Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah has already started work in earnest as he toured the Accra Sports Stadium today ahead of Ghana’s world Cup qualifier next week.
