Ghana Black Stars talisman Mohammed Kudus was yesterday decorated with the Sports Personality of the Year Award at the 47th SWAG Awards night held at the International Conference Center in Accra.
The beautifully organized event was meant to honour deserving sports personalities who performed creditably well in the year under review.
SWAG in collaboration with MTN and Adamus Mining Resources awarded sportsmen and women in their various sporting disciplines for their outstanding performances during the year under retrospection.
The yearly and the biggest sports award event saw the country’s Inspector General of Police, Dr Akuffo Dampare, the Youth and Sports Minister, Hon Mustapha Ussif, GFA President Kurt E.S Okraku, DCOP Lydia Donkor, SWAG president Kwabena Yeboah, the special guest of honor Nana Prah Agyensaim VI-Paramount Chief of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region all gracing the occasion with many more invited guest and stakeholders present to witness the all important awards ceremony.
Ajax Amsterdam forward Kudus Mohammed was crowned with the ultimate award that is, the Sports Personality of the Year and also received the Foreign Based footballer of Year Award ahead of Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Andre Dede Ayew whiles Hearts of Oak’s Daniel Afriyie Barnieh took home the Home Based footballer of the year accoladed.
Kudus beat competition from 200m national record-holder, Joseph Paul Amoah and Abraham Mensah, who both won bronze medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
