President John Dramani Mahama, in a new list of ministerial nominees, has settled on Honourable Kofi Iddie Adams to head the Ministry of Sports and Recreation subject to parliamentary vetting and approval.
The Member of Parliament(MP), for the people of Buem Constituency in the Oti Region, who is seen as a very calm but strict personality was mentioned today by the president to lead a sector most Ghanaians often describe as slippery and difficult Ministry, judging from the historical antecedents of former appointees to the sector.
Generally, one cannot lose sight of the fact that, the 49-year old’s toughness, resilience, intelligence might be his strength to steer the sports and recreation ministery to greater heights based on his vast experience in the academia, political space as well as someone seen as a grassroot person who is hugely admired by the party’s hierarchy.
Though, the former aid to Ex-president Rawlings nomination, came as a surprise to the sporting community, it is widely believed in the party and his close allies, as the right candidate to lead the sports ministry in its current quagmire.
However, the humble, firm and strict Hon. Kofi Adams’s major task when approved by parliament, will be to fulfill the heart desires of the larger football community by ensuring the qualification of the senior national team the Black Stars, to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico. Secondly, to also revive grassroot sports which was once breeder grounds for talents in the past for all national teams including athletics, football, boxing and many other more.
Expectations will therefore be high for Hon. Kofi Adams who is a boxing enthusiast heading to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation coined-out of the erstwhile Ministry of Youth and Sports.
