HANDBALL : AFRICA ZONE 3 IHF TROPHY TOURNAMENT KICK OFF IN ACCRA

The 2024 Africa Zone 3, International Handball Federation (IHF) tournament commenced on Tuesday, 20 February, 2024 at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.

The tournament which will end on 24 February, 2024 is made up of Under 18 Men and Under 20 Men respectively who will be competing for glory with participating countries such as Nigeria, Cote D’Ivore, Togo, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Benin and host nation Ghana all taking part in the four days event.


Meanwhile, in the U-18 category, Ghana defeated Togo by 57-13, while Nigeria thrashed their opponent, Benin 45-19 with the most valuable player given to Bernard Brown from Ghana and Nigeria’s Mohammed Mustapha also been crowned the MVP award.

In the U-20 category,Ghana and Cote D’Ivore drew 44-44 while Nigeria humbled Liberia 61-19.
Nigeria’s Kuti James was adjudged as the best player whiles Ghana’s Nana Addo with his exceptional goalkeeping prowess also won him the best player respectively.


However, speaking at the opening ceremony earlier, Mr.Edward Nii Lante Bannerman, the President of the Handball Association of Ghana was delighted that Ghana was given the opportunity to host the lHF Youth Handball championship.

He said, “this tournament came at the right time as the country is preparing for the 13th African games on March 8 to 23.”
He added that, “it would also serve as the test for the newly built Handball court. He continued, our focus is to nurture handball youth talents in Ghana and Africa to get more recognition in the world of handball competitions.”
“Together, we will showcase the best Ghana has to offer.” He concluded.


Ghana is gearing up to host the 13th All African Games scheduled for 8 March to 23 March 2024 dubbed Accra2023. His Excellency the president of Ghana Nana Akuffo Addo recently commissioned an ultra modern sports complex at Borteyman in Accra specifically designed to host most of the indoor games for the impending competitions.
