The Human Right Court in Accra, today convicted the General Secretary of Ghana Football Association Prosper Harrison Addo and Division One League Board Member Tophic Abdul-Kadir Sienu for contempt in a case filed by Ashgold SC against GFA and it’s twelve (12) Executive Members.
The court in delivering it’s judgement sentenced Prosper Harrison Addo to a day in prison and a fine of 2000 penalty units totalling Gh24,000 cedis while Tophic Abdul-Kadir Sienu was also sentenced to a day in prison and Gh12,000 cedis fine and in default will spend 14 days imprisonment in both cases.
However, the court further acquitted and discharged the twelve (12) Executive Members including the GFA president Mr Kurt E.S Okraku for no wrong done.
In a quick reference, the Ghana Football Association’s Appeals Committee last year upheld the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to demote Ashgold SC to division two and a ban to the Team Owner, the CEO, some club officials and players for misconduct charges over allegations of match fixing.
Ashgold SC therefore seeked for an interlocutory injunction at the Accra High Court to stop league from starting until the substantive case filed by the club is heard but the FA defiled the court injunction of Ashgold and commenced the 2022/23 Betpawa Premier league that brought about the contempt case.
Meanwhile, all things been equal, the court will sit on the substantive case brought against the GFA by Ashgold on March 20, 2023 at the Accra High Court.
