BOXING: 43-YEAR OLD OSUMANU CLINCH WBO AFRICA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Haruna Osumanu made history by clinching the new WBO Africa Heavyweight champion title when he beat 39-year old Idris Affini from Nigeria via a round six technical knock out on Saturday night.

The heated fight led the ring referee to stop the bout after a head butting incident occurred during the process, after which a check was made to decide who was leading on the score cards when the unexpected stoppage was made.

The Ghanaian with 15-3-0, expressed his delight afterwards and promised to work hard to realize his ambition of winning a world title.

However, lead trainer at the James Town Boxing Club, coach Randy, applauded Haruna’s effort for his discipline, hard work and attitude towards training at the boxing gym where Haruna trains. He said becoming a continental champion is not easy and therefore congratulated Osumanu for that victory.

“We want more international bouts to take us to our dream” he added.

For winning the WBO Africa Heavyweight title, Haruna Osumanu automatically becomes 15th ranked contender to the World Boxing Organization title.
