Illegal Mining Site In Ashanti Region Take Away Two Lives

What appeared to be a bad day for the people of ‘Manso’ was as a result of an abandoned illegal mining site left uncovered for a period of time, unfortunately took away the lives of two brothers from the ‘Manso Watreso’ Community.

The two blood brothers drowned in an illegal mining/galamsey pit left unattended to at ‘Manso Watreso’ in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti region.

Yaw Owusu, 21 and Beebe, 19 the victims, drowned when they went to the farm on January 9, 2023 for some food stuffs.

However, the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Kofi Mensah in an interview confirmed that, Bebee was sent to check if a net they cast earlier in one of the galamsey pit had caught fish.

The victim while checking the net unfortunately slipped into the pit full of water and drowned. To that point, his elder brother who made an attempt to rescue him also got drowned in the process.

Meanwhile, the two bodies have been deposited at the St. Martins hospital morgue at Agroyesum for autopsy.

The Police in collaboration with other security bodies in the ‘Manso’ District have begun investigations into the unfortunate incident.
