Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of Africa Armwrestling Federation (AFA) and world vice president will soon embark on a 3-day working visit to Cameroon beginning on 15 to 18 August, 2023.
The purpose of his visit is to strengthen the support for the development and growth of the game on the African continent.
As Vice President of World Armwrestling and President of Africa Armwrestling Federation, it is his desire to bring everybody on board and therefore his objective for the trip is to engage in a discussion with key stakeholders in Cameroon’s sporting industry that includes the Sports Minister, the Director of the National Sports Council, the National Olympic Committee, and the local Armwrestling Federation.
Discussions with the Sports Minister, will mostly center on Cameroon’s interest to host the prestigious 2025 Africa Armwrestling Championship. Additionally, preparations for the forthcoming Africa Games in the following year will be discussed as well as ways Cameroon will seek to optimize it’s representation at the Games.
Armwrestling as a game is set to make its inaugural appearance as a competitive sport at the 2023 Africa Games to be hosted in Ghana and the president see’s this as a strategic opportunity towards the sport’s inclusion in Continental competitions and eventually the Olympics games.
He is likely to be welcomed upon his arrival by Mr. Julien Boumsong Nokomis, President of Cameroon Armwrestling Federation who also doubles as Secretary General for Africa Armwrestling Federation as well as play a role as President of the Central Africa zone.
Mr Osei Asibey will take the opportunity to also inspect the facilities in Cameroon that will signal their readiness to host the 2025 Africa Armwrestling Championships.
