
ARMWRESTLING: GOLDEN ARMS RETURN HOME FROM MOLDOVA AFTER MAKING GHANA PROUD AT THE 2024 WORLD ARMWRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP

The Golden Arms of Ghana returned home from Moldova a few days ago after competing in the 2024 World Armwrestling Championships in Chisinau.
The Championship which saw Ghana put up an impressive performance by some of the individual pullers in their various weight category, resulted in the team winning it’s first ever gold medal at the World stage.
Double gold medallist and African champion Grace Minta of the Ghana Police Service won gold medal for the nation to become the first Ghanaian armwrestler to win gold at the World Armwrestling Championships.
On the other hand, Ghana’s Blessed Abeka Nunoo also exhibited her best performance to place 4th in the 60kg Junior Girls left arm battle after losing the 3rd place position to her opponent at the competition.
Other armwrestlers who equally competed at the World Championships include team captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah of the Ghana Immigration Service and Godwin Sackey also of the Immigration Service.
Head Coach of the Golden Arms Nii Otoo Larkyne who doubles as referee officiated at the competition in addition with Husseini Akuetteh Addy(Head Referee for the Armwrestling Federation of Africa and World Armwrestling Referees Panel member) and Abigail Fremah all officiated in various levels at the championships.
Meanwhile, Ghana which is ranked 19th in the World and 2nd in Africa on the Armwrestling table recently made history by winning 41 medals at the 13th African Games held in Accra.
In a related development, Founder of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation as well as President of Africa and Vice president of the World Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey was honoured in Chisinau-Moldova by the World governing body for his singular contribution in supporting the global development and promotion of Armwrestling in Ghana, Africa and the world as a whole. He therefore received a plaque with citation from the World Armwrestling Federation President.
This year’s World championship which started on August 15 to August 25 was hosted by Moldovan National Sport Federation of Armwrestling (FNSARM) under the leadership of President Alexandru Grumeza and General Secretary Ms. Anna Belenciuc.
