‘APOLOGIZE TO GHANAIANS’ – KWESI NYANTEKYI ADVICE’S CURRENT GFA LEADERSHIP

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Mr Kwesi Nyantekyi has put out a word of advice to the current leadership of Ghana football, led by Mr Kurt E.S Okraku to apologize to Ghanaians.

This came to light after Ghana Black Stars poor performance that led to their shameful exit from the 2023 African Cup of Nations currently ongoing in Ivory Coast.

On a live program on Ghana’s biggest television station GTV this morning, a question was posed to Mr Nyantekyi that, should the FA apologize to Ghanaians? The former GFA president answered; “Of course, because the national team doesn’t belong to the FA.

He continued, “The FA is just a trustee or a custodian, an agent managing the national team on behalf of the people of Ghana. And so if somehow, the management of the team did not lead to the desire results that people expect, the FA has to come out and apologize for that.”

The one time CAF vice president, used the 2012 Cup of nations setback, as an example, then as a leader of the FA when Ghana was booted out of the semi-final by Zambia, he came out to apologize to Ghanaians.

He said, “I have done it before in the past, even though in our case, 2012 we got to the semi-finals, we were knocked out at the semi-finals by Zambia. We came and there was a whole here and cry, my friend Ebo Appiah led a campaign that, the coach must to go, you know……And I think Ghanaians are entitled to get angry.”

He added, ” Yes, Ghana deserves the best, and if we fall short, whoever played the role in that should apologize to the people.”

The Black Stars on Monday 22 January, 2024 broke the heart of millions of Ghanaians after they threw away a two goal lead within just two minutes with four minutes to the end of the game. A win against Mozambique could have taken Ghana to the knock out stages of the competition after they had lost to Cape Verde by 1-2 and drew 2-2 with Egypt.
