Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah, is set to miss Egypt’s next two Afcon games according to reports.
The Egyptian captain will be sidelined for the crucial match against Cape Verde on Monday due to a hamstring injury and the round of 16 game if they qualify.
The 31 year old attacker, was forced to leave the pitch during the first half of the match in a game where it ended 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday, and subsequent tests confirmed the hamstring injury.
Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that, Salah will miss both the Cape Verde game and a potential last-16 tie if Egypt qualifies from the group.
According to the EFA, “Tests on Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egypt national team, proved that he suffered a hamstring injury and will miss the next two matches of the team at the Afcon,” the Association said.
However, for the Pharaohs to qualify, the seven-time African champions, must defeat already-qualified Cape Verde in their upcoming match on Monday to book a ticket to the next stage of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mo Salah, who is close to reaching 100 caps for Egypt, scored a crucial last minute penalty against Mozambique, securing a 2-2 draw in their opening match. Egypt, is currently under pressure after a slow start at the Nations cup, twice came from behind in the draw with Ghana.
