
AFCON 2023: GHANA TO PLAY NAMIBIA TODAY IN AN INTERNATIONAL AHEAD OF NATIONS CUP KICK OFF

The senior national team the Black Stars will today play the Brave Warriors of Namibia at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi in a pre-AFCON friendly game.
Ghana and Namibia have both qualified for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and will use this evening’s match to fine-tune their final preparations for the tournament this weekend.
Both countries have met three times in a competitive game. The first meeting was on 24th January 2008 in an African Cup of Nations match hosted by Ghana. As the host nation, the Black Stars defeated Namibia 1-0 in a group stage game. Manuel Junior Agogo the late, scored the only goal in the 41st minute at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In their second encounter, which was a friendly game played on 4th January 20214, Ghana once again won by a goal to nil. However, The Brave Warriors turned the table in their third encounter where they beat Ghana 1-0, four years ago in a pre-AFCON friendly match at the Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence in Dubai. Manfred Starke scored the only goal of the game for his country in the second half of the game after Ghana’s goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi’s miss kick ended the ball in his own net.
Ghana is in group ‘B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique The Black Stars will play it’s first game against Cape Verde on 14 January, 2024 at Houphouet Bouain Stadium.
